The portable cone penetorometer is in principle
based on the cone type penetorometer developed
by Waterways Experiment Station, U.S.A., and is a
handy, portable static instrument used for
determining bearing capacity of natural or
compacted sub grades, and also served as a rapid
means for the determining penetration resistance
or approximate cohesion of relatively soft soils in
shallow exploration up to about 5 meters.
